You want your home to be special, a place that is
uniquely yours.
Personalizing your home can be easy with the resources available though custom framing.
To start, forget all the rules except this one: "If you like it,
frame it".
Whether it's a yellowing snapshot from an earlier generation, a picture postcard of a
memorable vacation, a favorite poem, fine art or an inexpensive print, anything that stirs
a happy memory or brings joy by its beauty justifies its place on your walls.
A professional framer can assist with technical guidance. Size
and proportion matter; colors and texture should compliment the artwork and compatibility
of style also influences your choices.
More importantly, the value of the work to be framed should dictate the level
of conservation/preservation taken in framing. Ultraviolet
light, humidity and temperature changes are harmful to artwork. Wise choices in
framing can minimize the effects of these natural enemies.
In choosing the finished look for a piece, don't be misled by the
notion that there's one way it should be framed. Good choices abound. The
various combinations of mat styles and colors coupled with the almost limitless array of
frames together pose countless possibilities for the finished product.
And be creative in your selection of subjects for framing!
Shadowboxes hold baby bonnets, matchbook cars, arrowheads scratched from
freshly turned soil, special medals or awards and collections of just about everything
else.
Besides the traditional prints and original
artworks you expect to see framed, display your favorite recipes, show off your children's
creations or your needlework, frame that special greeting card or press a Spring bouquet
and use it to brighten your walls year-round.
Framing is as individual as you are. Express yourself--and enjoy the
process now and the results for years to come.
When selecting a framing material, a vast array of choices are available to
you. You may find the rustic look of "heart pine" is appropriate for your
piece or something more elegant such as a hand-made 22 Karat gold leaf frame.
Whatever your taste and whatever is appropriate for your art piece, you will probably find
it available.
How Do You Price Custom Framing?
The frame is built from moulding that can cost from $3
per foot to $40 per foot (or more), the average cost being between $6 and $10 per
foot. The glass and mat are priced according to size and type. Finally, there
is a labor charge based upon the amount of time involved in framing a piece.
What Are the Different Types of Glass?
There is regular clear, non-glare, anti-reflective and
Plexiglas available. Each type of glass can have a UV feature added. This is
important if a piece will be hung in direct sunlight.
The options in framing are endless and too
numerous to name. If you have questions or a special framing need, please fill out
